Representatives from both parties met in The Hague to discuss information exchange mechanisms and legal coordination frameworks
The League of Arab States (LAS) and Eurojust have held their first institutional meeting at Eurojust headquarters in The Hague, marking a significant step toward operational judicial cooperation between the two entities. This high-level visit laid the groundwork for future collaboration in counterterrorism and organized crime cases, reinforcing the EU’s commitment to engaging with Arab judicial institutions.
Organized under the CT JUST Stream on Operational Justice, this visit represents a major step forward in judicial diplomacy. LAS representatives have engaged in direct discussions with Eurojust officials to explore avenues for future cooperation, including information-sharing mechanisms and legal coordination frameworks.
During the meeting, initial steps were taken towards establishing a network of Eurojust contact points within LAS and its member states, a move that will facilitate greater legal cooperation and more effective case coordination across the region. Additionally, both parties have explored ways to enhance direct judicial communication and improve engagement in transnational crime investigations.
As part of the next phase of engagement, a follow-up workshop will be held in Cairo in May 2025, focusing on international judicial cooperation, counterterrorism, and organized crime. This event will further refine cooperation mechanisms and provide a platform to strengthen ties between Eurojust and LAS judicial authorities.
This institutional visit marks a pivotal moment in the development of structured cooperation between Eurojust and LAS, paving the way for stronger judicial coordination, improved information-sharing, and more effective transnational legal action in the fight against terrorism and organized crime.
